In life, everyone experiences highs and lows. When people have a living God in their lives, they know that He is greater than the highs and lows. In Peter 5:6-7, Jesus tells us to
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you. For it is proper that of the angels he should give you a place of participation.”
To me, this scripture is an encouragement to live humble or to know that God is greater than my life’s highs and lows.
Why Is God Greater Than The Highs And Lows: The eternal perspective
In a world where nothing is guaranteed, it’s tempting to be so caught up in the highs and lows of life that you forget about the fact that there is an eternal perspective. What does it mean when God is greater than the highs and lows? It means that you can’t depend on anything but Him. While we experience highs and lows in our lives, God will always be greater than any of them because He’s the one who created them in the first place.
How To Live A Humble Life: The present perspective
Peter 5:6-7 verse states, “humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you. For it is proper that of the angels he should give you a place of participation.”
In other words, God doesn’t just want us to live humbly so that He can exalt us at the proper time.
What Does It Mean In Practice
What does it mean when God is greater than the highs and the lows? The phrase in practical terms means in practice, or in actuality. Practically can be defined as in reality or in practice. It is impossible to experience the greater without understanding the context of the lesser, for example, how much worse one might feel after an unfortunate event has happened. Understanding this perspective can allow one to experience more peace and happiness during times of success.
It’s easy to get caught up in the highs and lows of life. Whether it’s a promotion at work or the death of a loved one, life brings with it an uneven landscape that can make you feel like you are on a rollercoaster ride. But there is hope! God is greater than any high or low.
